The official celebration of the "National Day of the American Cowboy" is for the second year passed by the U.S. Congress and and signed into action by U.S. President George W. Bush as a celebration and a national day for the American icon; The Cowboy!

,

The Capital -N- Ranch Stampede & Bar-B-Q is a long annual tradition for the Nilsen family, it started way back in 1990 at the Pine Valley Ranch, but was then held to correspond to the weekend closest to July 4th to celebrate the U.S. Independence Day, it was a bar-b-q and get-together for invited family, friends and co-workers. Cowboy and frontier competitions was held from the first annual Stampede. Games such as roping, horseshoe-pitching and shooting.

From the 3rd annual party and on, was the first prize in each competition a golden horseshoe with an engraved plaque.

The execution of the Stampede to correspond as close as possible with July 4th proved to be difficult over the years as many of the guests had to choose between the Stampede and July 4th events elsewhere. Therefore (starting in 2006) The Stampede will annually be held on the third weekend in July, to correspond to the celebration of National Day of the American Cowboy (Signed into action by President Bush in 2005).

Competitions for the 2007 Stampede will be in Cowboy Action Shooting (for members of Scandinavian Western Shooters) hosted by Rock River Rangers, regular shooting, roping, horseshoe-pitching, AND our success competition from 2006: speed saddling.

High-point competitors of four events will be competing of the ultimate and title;

Capital -N- Ranch All-Around Cowboy 2007

the winner of this title will have the honor of receiving the annual All-Around Cowboy gold-and silver plated trophy buckle

The winner of 2007 years buckle and defender of the title "Capital -N- Ranch All-Around Cowboy" was Arve Opedal.

The 2008 winner was Steve Langdon
